Nothing has worked in the eight years I have been trying to do this until I got the Fritz and a Netgear Extender. So the first thing to do is give it maximum marks for achieving the primary objective and saving me a whole extra broadband subscription. The Fritz is planted in the same location as the other wireless devices in an old house with thick walls and the boudaries of reception have been extended in all directions. Not by a vast amount but in the case of the shed, enough is enough to work. The 5 Mb range is disappointing, however. My iPad2 can only hook up on the 5Mb band when its close to the hub. A disappointment since Lovefilm's new app has instantly become my default method of watching their films.The... Basically the Fritz!box makes it very easy to configure multiple VOIP accounts which can be used with ordinary phones plugged into the rear of the router or any DECT or wifi connected mobile phones. It also sends and receives faxes as pdf files. It works with pure VOIP, but not Skype. Into the rear of the router you plug both your phone and DSL cables and then one or two BT handsets into phone sockets on the router. As well as true dual-band wireless, VoiP, NAS and gigabit ethernet, it has a VPN feature. Installation is easy and the device performance is solid, with great reliability and good performance. But....It was that VPN feature that I mainly purchased this unit for and boy was I disappointed. You cannot configure the VPN via the web client, you must use some software (windows only, Mac users need not apply) to generate a VPN configuration which you then upload. No matter how many times and configurations I tried, I could not get this to work. I could upload a configuration no problem, but could never connect remotely even trying several VPN clients. Worse, the unit gives no help in what may be going wrong and no entries are kept in the system log which could help you diagnose the problem.
